Give blood for roller derby

July 25, 2013

The Santa Cruz Derby girls are participating in what’s billed as the first-ever nationwide roller derby blood drive.

As posted on Santa Cruz Patch, members of the league will be holding the “Make ‘em Bleed” blood drive with the American Red Cross on August 13 and 14 at the Whole Foods Market on 41st Avenue in Capitola.

Derby girls be on hand to greet and thank donors, sign autographs and give blood. All donors will receive an official T-shirt and other giveaways.

You can catch the derby girls in action Sunday at the Santa Cruz Warriors arena, where they hopefully won’t be losing too much blood. The league’s Seabright Sirens will take on the Peninsula Roller Girls at 2:30 p.m. The league’s youth team (groms) will play the Sac City Bad Apples at 12:30 p.m.
