Local television station KSBW is reporting that swimming advisories have been issued for two Santa Cruz County beaches because of high levels of bacteria.
Water quality samples taken yesterday indicated bacteria levels above safe body-contact standards for Cowell Beach and Capitola Beach, west of the jetty.
Testing will continue and warning signs will remain posted until bacteria levels decrease to safe levels.
Cowell Beach has frequently ranked among the state’s most polluted beaches in terms of water quality.
