Seeking sasquatch in Santa Cruz

July 30, 2013

Folks from the Animal Planet series “Finding Bigfoot,” which focuses on exactly what it sounds like, were in Felton yesterday to visit the Bigfoot Discovery Museum.

Fans gathered to meet the cast, which includes Bigfoot Field Research Organization president Matt Moneymaker, researchers Fay and Cliff Barackman, and skeptical scientist Ranae Holland. The show follows the quartet as they travel around in search of the elusive cryptid known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch.

The show begins its fourth season in November.

Bonnie Horgos of the Sentinel met with the cast and their fans yesterday at the museum, as did David Cruz of Santa Cruz Patch.

“Michael Rugg opened the museum in June 2006 with the purpose of educating the public and showcasing evidence that could point to the existence of Bigfoot. The Highway 9 venue is stocked with video footage of alleged Bigfoot sightings, as well as anthropology books, periodicals and audio tapes used as evidence that the legendary creature may be real,” the Sentinel reported.”

“This event just kind of happened,” Rugg said. “They said, ‘How about we come down to your neck of the woods?’”
