Santa Cruz County District Attorney is declaring a caseload emergency and is asking county officials to allow them to hire more employees.
In a press release issued this afternoon, DA Bob Lee said his office will be forced to consider emergency measures to add critically needed staff because of the number of serious cases set for trial in the past year.
Lee writes in a prepared statement:
“The situation is untenable. We have reached a breaking point and are stretched too thin. We need immediate help as the there is an unprecedented number of homicide jury trials set in the next two months.”
The DA’s Office has sent the following letter to Susan Mauriello, county administrative officer.
