Mountain lion watch: Big cat’s been tranqued

May 16, 2013

You can now keep calm and carry on because the mountain lion trapped in a Santa Cruz aqueduct has been tranquilized and will soon be removed.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that the animal stuck in the aqueduct on May Avenue was sequestered around 12:30 p.m.

Jason Hoppin reports:

“Chris Wilmers of the Puma Project successfully tranquilized the untagged adolescent puma. Wilmers and his crew planned to crate the mountain lion, but had to hit it with a second tranquilizer as it got up and staggered toward the bushes. Wilmers hopes to blindfold and evaluate the puma before relocating it.”

A puma is another name for a mountain lion, as are cougar, panther and catamount.
