Mountain lion spotted in Scotts Valley

Oooh! More cougar news!

A couple in Scotts Valley apparently spotted a mountain lion near their home the other day.

KION reported the animal was sighted Monday night on Whispering Pines.

The Sentinel had more details in today’s paper.

An adult mountain lion attacked a deer in the front yard of a home in Scotts Valley late Monday night, causing a stir in the quiet neighborhood and forcing police to warn neighbors to keep pets indoors at night.

Scotts Valley police Sgt. Jayson Rutherford said mountain lion sightings are rare in Scotts Valley. He wanted neighbors to be aware and be alert.

“It’s a public safety issue,” Rutherford said Tuesday. “We don’t want them attacking domestic animals” or people, he said. If confronted by a mountain lion, residents should loom large, Rutherford said.
