Former owners of Bikini Coffee spot not thrilled by changes

December 17, 2013

Apparently the now-former owners of the Daily Perk Express in Watsonville are none too happy about the fact that their spot has now been taken over by Bikini Coffee.

They reached out to Santa Cruz News recently about the change-up:

“As the previous Owners of the Daily Perk Express, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you wonderful, loyal customers for their committed Patronage to Daily Perk Express-Drive Thru over the past 5 years and 7 days. Our baristas have felt so welcomed into your hearts and families and they are sincerely missing all of you.

We want to make it very clear to the City of Watsonville, Santa Cruz County and all of our customers that the Daily Perk Express owners did not sell their existing business to the current owners. The new owners and landlord negotiated their own lease at the end of our 5 year lease……….after engaging in negotiations with us and subsequently abandoning all business dealings with us. Apparently the new out-of-town owners had never been to Watsonville,CA before last month and thought it was a tourist-driven beach town.

Watsonville, CA is much more than a ‘beach town’ -it is a sophisticated community that looks for quality products,  not gimmicky marketing. Our children have been raised in Watsonville schools, Santa Cruz County Sports and Recreation with 2nd & 3rd and 4th generation local families, all of whom supported our coffee shop adventure. We want to set the record straight that the transition from a locally-owned business to a Vegas-type operation was not our vision for the drive-thru on Freedom Blvd in Watsonville.
Finally, please know that since we have not sold our name (the Daily Perk Express) or our equipment, we have decided to retain our Daily Perk Express coffee cart business and are available for events large and small all over CA. We have also posted misc. equip and supplies for quick sale on Craigslist.”
