Brew Sessions: Sante Adairius Rustic Ales

April 29, 2013

Santa Cruz County is home to an ever-growing number of home brewers and craft breweries, and is quickly becoming something of a destination for beer geeks.

Santa Cruz News will be taking a look at the people behind the keg, the brewers working hard to make tasty beer for you.

First up, videographer and beer aficionado Tom Lopez visits Sante Adairius Rustic Ales in Capitola, founded by Tim Clifford and his wife, Adair Paterno. Tim is also an owner of the Seven Bridges home brewing supply store in Santa Cruz. Located in a commercial area of Capitola, the tasting room of SARA is a pleasant, inviting place to hang out. It’s a great place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, sipping beer and playing one of the numerous board games they keep stocked.

But, what, what about the beer?

SARA specializes in rustic, old-world style beers, with a special focus on saisons or farmhouse ales. The beer represents a great example of blurring the lines between beer and wine. Whether you crave a rye porter or a refreshing Berlinerweiss, SARA is crafting amazingly complex old world ales. And like so many places in Santa Cruz County, SARA collaborates with other local businesses, from aging their beer in wine barrels obtained from Beauregard Vineyards in Bonny Doon to crafting beers like the popular Joe Chavez, a Belgian-style porter made with Verve Coffee with a name inspired by the head brewer at Seabright Brewery.
