Summer camp: Bonny Doon Heartland’s ForestFarm summer program

June 6, 2013

If you’re looking for ways to entertain the kiddos this summer, there are plenty of options throughout the county.

Bonny Doon Heartland is “a community based rural center promoting traditional community, wilderness training, life skills education and cultural events.”

The property, called The Heartland, was acquired through a lease with-option-to-buy agreement in early 2012. The organization is now seeking nonprofit status to continue running and implementing educational programs and community events.

This summer, they are offering something called ForestFarm summer camp for kids from ages 6 to 18, which will focus on such skills as tracking animals, planting seeds, picking fruit, and garden care, among other natural and agricultural topics.

Campers will learn to recognize bird sounds, plant a garden, make a campfire with two sticks and prepare healthy meals.

Six one-week sessions are being offered beginning June 10 and continuing through Aug. 3. Each session runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The sessions are $350 per child, with discounts given for siblings and multi-session campers. Apply here or email Bonny Doon Heartland for more information.
