Everybody’s working for the weekend: Events for Feb. 28-March 2, 2014

February 28, 2014

Finally some rain! We needed this! But don’t sweat – there are still plenty of fun activities going on this weekend, rain or shine. Here’s a sampling:

  • Are We There Yet?Planet Cruz will present this one-man, multimedia comedy show for the final night, tonight at the Broadway Playhouse in Santa Cruz at 8 p.m.
  • Fire it Up: The Museum of Art and History on Saturday plays host to a special chef-on-chef cooking competition to raise money for the Regional Occupational Program’s culinary art classes.
  • Dr. Dog: Dr. Dog plays the Catalyst tonight at 9 p.m.
  • Nikki McClure: Nikki McClure is an artist well known for her intricate paper cut designs. A new retrospective of her work is opening today at the Museum of Art and History, and she will be discussing her work tonight at Bookshop Santa Cruz starting at 7:30 p.m. It’s free to boot.
  • Pop Up Museum:  The MAH hosts another of its Pop Up Museum series on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. This one will be held at the museum on Front Street and focuses on medicine. It’s being held  in collaboration with WomenCARE, a place where women with any type of cancer find mutual support and shared experience, the Central Coast Center for Independent Living,  and Berkeley based artist Dr. Timothy Wolfe. Bring someone or something that helps you heal, and share recovery stories.
  • Bellydancing brunch: The bellydancing brunch series returns to the Crepe Place Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with a performance by House of Innana.
  • Freefall Improv: Local improv troupe Freefall returns to the Broadway Playhouse Saturday for a fun-packed show that’s likely to have you in stitches.
  • Moonrise Kingdom: In advance of Wes Anderson’s new film coming out, the Del Mar is featuring “Moonrise Kingdom” as its midnight movie tonight and tomorrow.

My blogger buddies over at Santa Cruz Life and Hilltromper have more suggestions for you too. So does the Good Times.

I guess there’s no longer any news fit to print in Santa Cruz?
    Pity.
