Scenes from Glow: A Festival of Fire

October 21, 2013

IMG_0626 This past weekend, the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History hosted its second annual Glow Fest.

Friday night’s festivities – the Festival of Fire – were a sight to behold. Cooper Street was closed off between Front Street and Pacific. A giant metal spaceship-type structure sat to one side, and a fire-breathing pipe organ dazzled audiences. Fire spinners and fire sculptures filled the courtyard directly outside the museum and the Dancetronauts put on a booty-thumpin’ show that turned out to be their last in Santa Cruz before the DJ/dance troupe heads to their new digs in Las Vegas. Their giant spaceship on a hydraulic lift was a spectacle to behold. The Samba Stilt Circus closed the night with drumming, stilt walkers in elaborate costumes, fire spinning and feathered dancers. IMG_0651
